Biography for John Thomas Haley

John Thomas Haley was born 15 December 1860 in Newton Co. Arkansas.
His parents were William Haley born 1832 and Amanda Bushart 1830.
William and Amanda moved to Lamar Co. TX.  William enlisted in the 9th
Regiment of the Texas Calvary.  He died at Little Rock, Ark in a Union prison.
Amanda married James H. Stroud and returned with her two young sons,
William and John Thomas Haley to Newton County, Missouri.

 John married Sarah Jane Davis the 28th of December 1884 in Newton Co. MO.
Children born to this union were; Myrtle Elizabeth and William Henry twins,
8 September 1885.  William did not survive.  Claud was born the 25th of
April 1888, Clyde the 25th of March 1889 and Maud the 6th of November
1892.  Myrtle married Elmer L. Sharp 16 Nov 1904 in Newton Co.  Claud
was shot and died in a riding accident the 18th of June 1907.  Clyde married
Maud Stella Ray the 23 October 1912.  Maud married Walter Poor the
6th of February 1910.

 John was a prominent farmer in Grangeville, Newton County.  He served
as a Deacon in the Fairview Baptist Church.  The church was originally known
as the Big Spring Baptist Church.  The church was built in the Newstead
community on one acre of land given by Thomas Estes and Rhoda Farmer,
grandparents of Sarah Jane.

 John  lived  most of his life in Newton County. Funeral services were held
in the Fairview Baptist Church by the Reverend George T. Kelly
November 11, 1937.  Burial was in the Dice Cemetery Fairview, MO.
