I am looking for descendents of Nicolas KRILL and Louisa EYERS(or Eyres) KRILL, residents of Newton County shortly after the Civil War. He was some sort of judge (may have been called "superintendent" or some other title) He was on the School Board. Andrew COX was a minister and was there at about the same time. Andrew had a brother named Joshua. John W. NARAMORE, Sr. had been born in Roane County, Tennessee and had gone into the Oklahoma Territory at sometime in the 1800's (he was born in 1828.) He then settled in Newton County with his first wife, Hyla.(may be Hila). She was born in North Carolina. We are told the John, Sr. was a Cherokee Indian or perhaps a half-breed. He divorced Hila and found another wife and died in Newton County. I heard he was buried in the Neosho city cemetery. John and Hila had at least three children who lived: my great-grandmother, Missouri Tennessee NARAMORE (married name became FORSTER: she is buried in Forest Park Cemetery in Joplin); John W.,Jr. who became the sheriff in Newton County around 1913 or so, and Joseph who was a farmer.

Looking for Narcissa BUSKIRK OSBORN that is supposed to be buried somewhere in Newton Co., MO, close to Joplin. She married in 1825 in Greene Co., IN to John OSBORN and was supposed to have died by 1860. Court records in Greene Co indicate that John died before 1846, so she may have remarried before her death. Narcissa was b. ca 1800 in Shelby Co., KY to John BUSKIRK and Mary LITTLE, have lots on her ancestry but need information on her descendants.

Bobby Ray Barbee--Thu Nov 20 12:12:24 1997
I am interested in information on any and all of the following people: The 1850 U.S. census for Van Buren Township in Newton County listed Jesse ADAMS as the head of family living as a farmer with his wife Elizabeth (maiden name DOWTHET - also spelled DOUTHITT and DOWTHIT) and the following children: William (born circa 1847 in Missouri, as were all his siblings), and Charles (born circa 1849). Also listed as living with them was Evander DOWTHET (Elizabeth's brother; born circa 1830 in North Carolina). Jesse ADAMS was born circa 1826 in Tennessee. He and Elizabeth were married on May 27, 1846 in Newton County. Jesse is listed in the "General Index to Pension Files" microfilm indicating that Elizabeth had filed for a pension. Jesse died September 3, 1875 in Newton County. According to information on affidavits for his widow's pension claim, his death was due to complications from a chronic hip sore on his thigh. Elizabeth DOWTHET ADAMS was born in February 1827 in North Carolina. After Congress passed an Act in June 1890 to provide pensions of $8.00 a month for widows of Civil War veterans she filed a claim (Application No. 436078) because she had no income at that time and was living with one of her daughters. The claim was based on her husband Jesse ADAMS' service as a private in Company I, 72nd Regiment of the Enrolled Missouri Militia, which later became the 15th Missouri Volunteer Cavalry (the organization which would have made Jesse's service pensionable). Elizabeth's claim was rejected in October 1891 because Jesse couldn't be found on the rolls of his unit and Elizabeth had lost his discharge papers. Plus, Jesse himself had never filed for a pension while he was alive. The 1900 U.S. census lists Elizabeth as living as a widow with the family of Samuel H. and Lou (one of Elizabeth's daughters) Hartley in Monett Township, Barry County, Missouri. Elizabeth died between 1900 and 1910. Missouri Vital Records doesn't have her death certificate on file between 1910 and 1937. Jesse and Elizabeth ADAMS are my paternal great- great grandparents. The 1850 U.S. census for the same township listed Abram DOWTHET as the head of family living as a farmer with his wife Mary (maiden name unknown) and the following individuals: Andrew DOWTHET ( born circa 1829 in North Carolina; occupation: farmer; still alive and living in Ritchey, Newton County, in August 1891)), Zadock DOWTHET (born circa 1831 in North Carolina; occupation: farmer; still alive and living in Ritchey in July 1891). Abram DOWTHET was born circa 1800 in North Carolina. His wife Mary was born circa 1798 in North Carolina. They are my paternal great-great- great grandparents. The 1860 U.S. census for the same township listed Jesse ADAMS as the head of family living as a farmer with his wife Elizabeth DOWTHET ADAMS and the following children: William, Charles, Campbell (born circa 1852 in Missouri, as were all his siblings), Sidney R.(born December 14, 1853 in Newton County; died July 16, 1930) , Mary Frances (born January 8, 1856 in Newton County; grew up in Van Buren Township but moved to Ritchey in 1875 after marrying William J. BARBEE; she and William had nine children; listed as living on Ohio Ave in Joplin on the 1910 U.S. census; lived in Joplin for 63 years; died December 30, 1937 at home in Joplin of cirrhosis of the liver and heart problems; widow at the time of her death; buried in Joplin's Fairview Cemetery; she is my paternal great- grandmother), and Rosina (born circa 1858; lived in Wisconsin in 1937). Also listed were the following individuals: William ADAMS (born circa 1796 in Tennessee) and Nancy (maiden name unknown) ADAMS (born circa 1800 in Tennessee) (Jesse's parents). The 1860 U.S. census for the same township listed Abram DOWTHET (spelled DOWTHIT in this census) as head of family living with the following individuals: Martha DOWTHIT (not indicated as his wife, 53 years old) and Mary DOWTHIT (not indicated as his wife, 72 years old). The 1870 U.S. census for the same township listed Jesse ADAMS as the head of family living as a farmer with his wife Elizabeth DOWTHET ADAMS and the following children: Sidney R. , Mary Frances, Rosina, Delila (born circa 1861), Nancy (born circa 1863), and Ronsanda (born circa 1869). The 1870 U.S. census for the same township listed Jane GILLSTRAP as head of family and the following individuals were living with her: William J. BARBEE (age 20), Thomas H. BARBEE (age 19), Mary SALMON(age 34), Susan SALMON (age 32), and Elizabeth CLUBB (age 15).

Bobby Ray Barbee--Thu Nov 20 10:34:17 1997
I am interested in information on any and all of the following people: The 1860 U.S. census for Jackson Township in Newton County listed Harriett C. BARBEE as the head of family living with the following children: Cynthia (born circa 1848 in Missouri, as were all her siblings); William J. (born February 1850 in Newton County ; 1870 census had him living with a Jane GILLSTRAP and working as a farm laborer; later in life worked as a Steam Driller and Lead Smelter; married Mary Frances ADAMS circa 1875; lived most of his life in Joplin, Jasper County ; listed in the 1896-97 Joplin City Directory as living at 7th near Mineral; died between 1900 and 1910 - Missouri Vital Records doesn't have his death certificate after 1910 and his wife is listed as a widow on the 1910 U.S. census) (he's my paternal great-grandfather); Thomas H. (born circa 1851; married Rebecca MONTGOMERY on November 23, 1879); Eliza D. (born circa 1855); Mary SALMON ( Harriett's sister; born circa 1837); Susanna SALMON (Harriett's sister; born cira 1839). Harriett C. (maiden name SALMON) BARBEE (listed as BARBA on the 1860 census) was born circa 1826 in Tennessee. Her parents were both born in Virginia. Her siblings were: George (see Van Buren Township below), John (see Van Buren Township below), and William (see Van Buren Township below) Harriett was married to Calvin BARBEE, born circa 1826 in Tennessee. According to information on wills in the book, "Saga of the Six Bulls," a history of Newton County, Calvin died September 30, 1851 in Newton County . George W. SALMON (probably his brother-in-law) was the administrator of his will, which was taken over by Mitchell Tate on May 14, 1852. Also according to information on wills in the "Saga of the Six Bulls," Harriett died January 4, 1861. The administrator of her will (recorded as "Harriett C. CLUBB, probably her name after remarrying after the death of her husband, Calvin) was Jeptha BARBEE, Calvin's brother. Jeptha BARBEE was born circa 1816 in Tennesse. He died September 19, 1865 on his way home after the Civil War (it's not known if he fought in the war). Jeptha's wife Nancy BARBEE remarried Randolph W. Wilkinson on March 7, 1866 in Newton County. I am also interested in information on any and all of the following people: The 1850 U.S. census for Van Buren Township in Newton County listed: George SALMON (born circa 1827 in Tennessee, as were his siblings; worked as a farmer); John SALMON (born circa 1830; worked as a farmer); William SALMON (born circa 1832; worked as a farmer) (see Jackson Township above for information on their sisters Harriett, Mary, and Susanna). These men are the brothers of my paternal great-great grandmother Harriett C. SALMON BARBEE.

Researching the family of McCLEERY/McCLEARY. 1880 census has a number of members of the same family living in Newton Co. Too many names to list here. Many are still there in later census - some family members still residing in Newton Co. More than happy to share any and all info. Looking for any descendants who might be able to fill in holes. Some names of families marrying into this family are: DALTON, STOKLEY, JACKET, VANCE, DILL, BROCK. These families came into MO from IN and IL.

1900,1910,1920 census records show William D. , wife Margaret - both born in MO. This is not a direct line of mine, but am trying to find maiden name of Margaret. She is a sister to wife of Seaman McCLEERY, believed to have died about 1906 (They are shown 1900 census Newton Co.) In 1910 their son Clarence is living with this Vance family. Family info says he was sent to live with an Aunt in Granby after death of his mother. Have been unable to find marriage for either Wm and Margaret Vance or Seaman and wife. A son of Wm and Margaret married a cousin of Seaman's in Newton Co in 1906 (Colin Vance/Lizzie McCleery). Any help greatly appreciated.

Isham (Isom) EDWARDS:dob January 22, 1824, Surry County, NC;dod September 5, 1905; JOPLIN, MISSOURI. Isham was buried in the PEACE CEMETERY just north of Joplin. The Cemetery has a beautiful entry, but has been left to ruin. Many of the stones have been knocked over and broken; there is a deer hunter's tree blind right in the middle of the cemetery. We searched but could not find where my husband's gg grandfather's grave was located. Besides feeling that something needs to be done about the desecration of such a lovely spot, we would like any information anyone might have about ISHAM. We know that he and his wife, NANCY EMILINE WILES EDWARDS came to Benton Co., Arkansas, in 1858 from NC. NANCY is buried in Decatur, AR, and we are not sure why ISHAM was in JOPLIN. Any help will be greatly appreciated. We do have a little bit of info on Isham and Nancy's children that we would love to share, but feel we have lots to learn.

Jo Ann Loghry--Sun Nov 9 20:08:56 1997
My husband's grandfather Jesse George LOGHRY died in Wentworth, Mo. in 1910. We cannot find where he is buried, nor can we find an obituary for him in the newspapers of the area. On the 1910 census he is with spouse Flora Ethel DYE and three children. Census taken in June; he d. Oct. 10, 1910 of typhoid. John Herman ( a friend?) went to Pierce city for a trunk wagon from the central livery stable, then took the body to John Taylors furniture store for the embalming. The receipt for everything shows that he was buried "near Bethel". His Aunt Rachel SHAFER lived in Sarcoxie outskirts close to the Newton County line. Apparently his wife took the three children and went back to Gravette, AR to live with her mother in law. We are of the mind that there is no tombstone for Jesse George LOGHRY bur. somewhere "near Bethel". The newspapers there said there were no copies of anything from 1910 so we cannot find an obituary for him, and the search goes on for his burial place. Any information would be very appreciated. All information about him has had to be pulled from the rocks as I canot find a birth record for him either. He apparently was born in Oklahoma as he states on the census that he was born there. We at first thought that he was living in Lawrence Co. but as we drove thru there tonight, I could see he was in Newton Co. and, so the search goes on.....Jo Ann Loghry

Daniel LEE, Sr. was b. 9 Feb 1785 in NC and was in TN by 1811 (still don't know the county). He left TN between 1815 and 1820 and went to AL. He left AL between 1822 and 1825 and moved to Lawrence Co., MO. His grandson, Daniel Fields LEE married Lyda Jane DAUGHTERY 27 Jan 1867 in Newton Co., MO. I have Lyda Jane DAUGHTERY's death certificate and it says her father was John DAUGHTERY, b. in IN. My grandmother told me that it was family lore that John DAUGHTERY wasn't really Lyda's father and that he had married Lyda's mother, Mary ERVIN, b. abt 1826 in SC, after Lyda's father had died. Since Lyda Jane was born 25 Aug 1846 in IN, I believe my grandmother was correct since John DAUGHTERY and Mary ERVIN married 17 Oct 1847 in Newton Co., MO. This was 14 months after Lyda was born in IN. I believe that Lyda had a brother/half brother named William DAUGHTERY. Any information or clues to the above families would certainly be appreciated!

I am trying to find out any information about Benjamin COPELAND and his wife Mary Catherine WILSON and their descendants and ancestors. I know that he was born January 3, 1854 in Missouri. I know that his parents were both born in Tennessee but I do not know their names. She was born March 14, 1860 in Illinois. Her father was born in Indiana and her mother was born in Kentucky but I do not know their names. I do know that she had a brother named John WILSON who was born in Indiana. Benjamin married Mary around 1874. They were probably married in Missouri. They had the following children: Rosa b. 1880, William Homer b.1880, Lula Magnolia b. 1883, Joseph b. 1884,LaEtta b. 1888, Henry Frank b. 1889, Minnie b. 1898, Elva b. Abt 1901. The family lived in Missouri and later moved to Oklahoma around 1888. They may have later moved back to Missouri because I have a picture of the family taken at a studio in Rolla, Missouri around 1915. Their names appear in the 1880 Newton County Missouri Census and in the 1900 Logan County, Oklahoma Census. The only one of the children that I have any information on is Lula. If anyone has any information about this family I would love to hear from you.

BRANICK; DYER; LOWE; PEASE - My mother's maiden name was BRANICK. Her father, Maurice Albert BRANICK was born in Newton County. I do not know his father's name but he owned land that is now part of Crowder Junior College. M.A. BRANICK was known as Abe. He was born in 1905 or 1906 and still has relatives in Neosho where he went to high school. I do not know his mother's maiden name. My mother's mother was born in or around Stella, Mo. which I guess is in Newton County because it is so close to Neosho. Grandmother's name was Ada Alta DYER and she was born in 1905. Her father owned a farm and a store in Stella. She was the sixth of seven children and the last to die. She taught in the late 1920's at Blue Spring School which was near the Branick property. Both the DYERS and the BRANICKS were Baptist. The names LOWE and PEASE are from my Branick-Dyer heritage but I am not sure where. Any info. would be appreciated.

MOORE, PEARSON 1870-1900 Granby & Wanda, NEWTON CO, MO 1870 Census at Granby lists Charles Nathan MOORE, wife Susan Jane (Janie), son Charles N. MOORE b. 1862; oldest daughter 'Janie' (aka Jennie Ann) b. 10 Oct 1866 in Mo; In this census Charles Nathan MOORE b.1834 in MO, was a miner, wife Susan Jane/Janie b. abt 1839 was 'keeping house'. In 1880 Granby census C.N. MOORE, police-municipal, was listed along with wife and two oldest children shown in 1870 census plus Sarah E. MOORE b.1868 Mo; N.K. MOORE (female) b.1872 MO; Martha MOORE b.1874 MO and youngest & last child, William H. MOORE b. MO Nov 1879. In July 1885 Jennie Ann MOORE married Thomas Everett PEARSON, by that date she told her children, she 'was an orphan girl, with only her older brother Charlie to look after her and their baby brother William'...We have no idea what happened to Charles Nathan, Susan Jane, Sarah, N.K. and Martha between 1880 & 1885, we do know that Charles Nathan was living in 1882/early 1883 from articles in the Neosho newspaper...cannot find any cemetery records listing their graves. Any clue on this family would be very, very much appreciated. We estimate the date of Charles Nathan's & Susan Jane Moore's marriage at abt 1861, due to the loss of Newton Marriage BK A, we have never found a record of it, and have searched the entire state of MO at the State Archives at Jefferson City.

In 1900 census of Granby Charlie MOORE is head of household and has married a widow with two children, Mary Cameron MOORE and Cora and Fred CAMERON. William MOORE is living with them, both Charlie & William were 'miners'.

PEARSON: In 1873/4 Thomas Everett PEARSON b. 1819 in Franklin Co,VA came to Wanda, Newton Co, Mo from Adamsville, McNairy Co, TN with his 2nd wife Susan Fraser REED PEARSON, their 4 little sons and at least one of his 6 children from his first marriage, Mary Catherine 'Katie' PEARSON. Thomas Everett's oldest son, James Palmer b.1853 in McNairy Co, TN Pearson, was living in Newton Co. by that time...both were 'mining engineers'...they had run a Mill in McNairy Co, TN and had done other 'heavy equipment work' eg road building etc. in TN. On 14 Nov 1878, Thomas Everett PEARSON was killed in a mining accident at Wanda. He is buried in the Wanda Cemetery, and has a large stone still intact. In 1880 his widow Susan still lived at Wanda with her daughter from her 1st marriage, Roxanne REED who by 1910 was a widow, Roxanne Reed TABOR, and the 4 little Pearsons sons plus stepdaughter Katie PEARSON. By 1885 (or earlier) the only other Thomas Everett PEARSON b. 1819 son from the 1st marriage was living in McNairy County (or possibly in McDonald Co). This was Thomas Everett PEARSON b. July 1862 in McNairy Co,TN. He was married in July 1885 to JENNIE ANN MOORE. They were living near Blackburn, Pawnee, OK by 1900 census, later moving to Hominy, Osage, OK where Jennie Moore PEARSON died on 8 Dec 1929, buried in the Hominy City cemetery. Tom PEARSON moved out to his newly purchased ranch in Osage County between Skiatook & Sand Springs where his of his grandsons and 2 great-grandsons still live and operate the ranch. Tom PEARSON died in March 1953 and is buried at Hominy next to Jennie Ann. His older brother, James Palmer PEARSON, the mining engineer of the 1880 Granby census moved to Joplin, Jasper Co, Mo. He and Tom PEARSON were very close and visited back & forth frequently. James Palmer PEARSON was a mine owner by this time and according to family stories very much opposed to the unions coming into the area...he disappeared without a trace abt 1910/11. He was living with his wife and children in Joplin at the time. The story is he was killed by the union people and his body dropped down a mining shaft...he was never found, nor any evidence of his fate discovered. Tom PEARSON searched for him for the next 20 yrs, going off to MO to look at unidentified remains found there etc.... James Palmer PEARSON wife and children were: Amanda Maiden name Unknown Pearson b. abt 1851 in TN?Mo?; Elma Pearson b. 1875 who married a Mr. ACKERMAN & lived somewhere around Miami, OK possibly, had 2 sons, family had some connection with Carter Oil. Ida May Pearson b. 1877 MO no other information on...& son Ernest Pearson b. July 1879- Granby, Newton, MO no other information on him. The four sons of Thomas Everett Pearson b. 1819 and 2nd wife Susan Fraser Reed Pearson, all went into mining, moved to Joplin by 1900...they were: William b. 1866 TN, Robert L. b. Nov 1873, John D. Sept 1875 MO, and George B. Pearson b. Oct 1877 in Newton Co. George B. Pearson became a fairly wealthy mine owner by 1920s-1940s...had only one child, a daughter, Kay Pearson Waldower b. abt 1910 in Joplin. The other 3 brothers lived in Joplin most or all of their lives, one was a city fireman I think.

Have a great deal of information on the Pearson family back to England...and on their wives families as well. Thomas Everett PEARSON b. 1819 was a grandson of Thomas Pearson b. 1753 in England who served in the Rev War in the VA line as an artilleryman..Thomas Everett Pearson b. 1862 in TN and his siblings descended from 5 Rev War soldiers. Will gladly share all of this with anyone related.

WESCOTT, BROCK research by Ronald L. Berryhill, 1332 SW 111 Place, Oklahoma City, OK 73170-4233, Home phone, 405-691-7090. E-mail Rberryhill@msn.com. According to an article in the Carthage Press dated November 19, 1932, Felix W. WESCOTT and Mary Elizabeth BROCK will celebrate their 50th. wedding anniversary tomorrow. According to the article Felix was 72 and Lizzy was 75. That would have them married at 22 & 25. The article says Mr. WESCOTT moved to Newton County, MO when he was 6 years old from Piatt County, IL. I have a certified true copy of Felix's death certificate and also one for Lizzy. Felix's shows his father as Joe WESCOTT and mother as Elizabeth WATSON. If Felix came to Newton at 6, his parents must have brought him. Therefore, I'm looking for any information on Joe WESCOTT, Felix WESCOTT, A brother Will WESCOTT or a sister Mrs. F.D. PORTER. Plus Elizabeth WATSON. Mary Elizabeth was the daughter of Terry Wiley BROCK and Jariska Jane HORNBACK according to the sources I've researched including the death certificate. Also looking for Brock or Hornback information. I deeply appreciate any help and gladly share any information I have. Warmest regards to all fellow hunters, best of hunting to you and yours. I am researching BERRYHILL, COFFELT, WESCOTT, DIXON, BROCK, HORNBACK, FLESHER, BIRD, DAUGHERTY, HARVEY, SLYE, SPAWR, and others.
