Robert M. Davis

Robert Moore Davis was born Jan 29, 1836 in St. Francois County, MO and died Apr 17, 1912 in Newton County. He is buried in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Neosho, MO. He married one Louisa C. (Unknown) about 1860 in MO. Louisa was born about 1834 in MO and died between 1868 and 1870. Robert then married Rebecca H. Hopkins on Nov 9, 1870. Rebecca was born about 1834 in Penn and died before 1900 in MO. I do not know where either Louisa or Rebecca is buried.

Robert and Louisa had at least three children and they were Charles S. Davis, Ella Ann Davis, and Elisa C. Davis. Charles was born Nov 17, 1862 in Nevada and died Nov 18 1952 in Newton County. Ella was born Nov 16, 1866 in Nevada and died Dec 1, 1883 in Neosho, MO. I only know that Elisa was born about 1868 in Nevada.

It is said that when the Civil War broke out Robert and Louisa left MO sometime in 1861 for CA to avoid being involved in the War. Robert returned with his children sometime between 1868 and 1870. Louisa must have died in Nevada sometime after Elisa was born and before the families return to MO. Robert was a merchant for all of his life and is believed to have owned and operated a Lumber Yard in Newton County.
